COPA AMERICA: WATCH CAVANI'S PENALTY SHOOT-OUT

 Quarter-final: Uruguay 0 Colombia 0 (2-4 on pens)

Edinson Cavani's bid to win Copa America with Uruguay ended in agonising fashion last night when his national team lost their quarter-final to Colombia 4-2 on penalties.

The United striker and his partner in attack, Luis Suarez, were both starved of service during a contest in Brasilia that ended 0-0 after 90 minutes and went straight to a shootout without extra time.

Cavani converted his side's first penalty to level up at 1-1 but former Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina saved Uruguay's second and fourth spot-kicks, taken by Jose Gimenez and Matias Vina, to send Colombia through to a semi-final against Argentina.

Tournament hosts Brazil - featuring Reds midfielder Fred - will face Peru in the last-four tie.

In comments tweeted by Copa America's official account below, Cavani graciously said: "Uruguay showed many moments of good football and Colombia as well. It was a nice meeting."

Commiserations, Edi.
